Donors & Contributors
Hariharananda Balashram and Prajnana Mission are grateful for the loving support and dedicated work of all of their donors and supporters. Below are some of the organizations and individuals who have contributed to our vision and the future of the children.
Hand-in-Hand Europe/USA
Hand-in-Hand Europe (www.handinhand.at) was founded with the aim to provide financial aid and human resources to victims of natural disaster in Orissa. They support the Hariharananda Charitable Health Clinics and mobile medical and dental units that provide health care to rural villages in Orissa. In 2003, they were quick to accept the challenge of Hariharananda Balashram and have tirelessly worked to expand their offices and fund-raising efforts into all corners of the world. They now have branches in the USA (www.handinhandusa.org), the Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland who help to support the school. These international non-profit organisations are made up of individuals from every walk of life. Though they differ in race, nationality, religious persuasions, professional training, economic status and age, they are commonly united in their desire to selflessly aid those who are in need.
Kriya Yoga UK — Balashram Trek
In 2007, Kriya Yoga UK (KYUK), a Registered Charity in England and Wales, coordinated a trek through the Sinai desert in a fund-raising effort for the Balashram. Twenty-seven trekkers spent a week trekking and sleeping under the stars to raise money. The trek, which included a climb to the top of Mount Sinai, was physically challenging but provided a unique and beautiful experience that was enjoyed by all. The project was a success both operationally and financially, leading the organization to coordinate the 2008 and 2009 Himalaya Treks through Ladakh and the Gangotri Valley. The treks are professionally organized by an experienced trek tour operator, with the administration and fundraising co-ordinated by Kriya Yoga UK. Participants come from all over the world in their effort to help the children of the Balashram. If you are interested in participating in the next trek, please visit: www.balashramtrek.org

Individual Estates and Donors:
Wendy Jack Memorial Fund
Wendy Jack’s primary interest had always been the welfare and education of children. Wendy’s last wish was to help the children of Hariharananda Balashram. Because of the generous monetary donation she bequeathed to Balashram upon her death, the lives of countless children will be benefited and enriched. Her loving heart and noble spirit will always be felt and remembered by the children of Balashram.

On January 26th, the entire student body of Balashram took part in a parade to honor the national recognition of Indian law. Marching to the rhythm of drumbeats, a flag was hoisted by the chief guest, Shri Abhimanyu Padhihari, who is the Block Regional Centre Coordinator SSA.
140 students in standards 1 through 3 traveled to the zoological park, Nandankanan, for their annual field trip. They were accompanied by their principal, 8 teachers, 9 caretakers, 2 brahmacharis and 2 brahmacharinis.
On Jannuary 15th, children from standards 3, 4 and 5 traveled to Puri in order to perform at the International Kriya Yoga Seminar. For more than two hours the children, dressed in beautiful Indian dance costumes, demonstrated their talent in dance, singing and tabla playing.
On December 27th and 28th, the Balashram students had the opportunity to demonstrate their sports skills during the 6th Balashram Annual Games. For this event, the field in front of the cowshed was transformed into a beautiful sports arena for track and field competitions.
Cycling began in a response to a private donation of 20 new bicycles. As a result, it has been added to the weekend and holiday schedule of Standard 5 students. This is the first time that the children of Balashram are involved in an activity off campus. The students are extremely enthusiastic about this new sport!
