Curriculum
The educational curriculum at Hariharananda Balashram follows Central Board Secondary Education standards and includes academic subjects as well as education in human values. Every child is recognized as being unique, and is encouraged and guided according to his or her own capability in a creative, loving environment. Teachers consistently motivate and inspire students to give one hundred percent in everything, and give individual attention to the children in the classroom and evening tutorials.
Nursery children are introduced to the English alphabet, counting numbers, storytelling, rhymes and nature. Song, dance and play make learning fun and experiential. In kindergarten, the children expand their knowledge and Oriya and Hindi languages are introduced. Nursery and kindergarten students are taught how to listen carefully, speak clearly, increase their vocabulary, and engage in lessons and games that promote their overall development.
Beginning in Standard I students are taught English, Hindi , Oriya, science, social studies, mathematics, general knowledge, computers, art and physical education. Sanskrit is introduced in Standard III. The main school building houses a multi-media room, computer lab and a large library containing over 3,000 illustrative and interactive books on various topics. Instructional CDs and DVDs may be viewed during designated library periods.
Students are encouraged to discover and develop their strengths through experiential learning, exploration, and practical application. Curiosity for knowledge, healthy living, values and service to society are strongly emphasized. Opportunities to experience extra-circular activities, performing arts and field trips are plentiful (see Extra-Circular Activities).
